A real Horror-movie
Bye Bye GOG, SK Aarhus and Camilla Andersen. The 22nd and final round of the HBL had everything and to make it even more intense; Danish TV-viewers could follow the games live on TV2 ZULU. Despite the matches were broadcasted live on television - many spectators had chosen the real thing in the arenas. In many arenas, the clubs had decided not to hear about the other matches. "Sportscenter Ikast" was one of these arenas and as a result of the chosen silence, the atmosphere was a bit unusual. Neither spectators nor the players from both teams knew if they had made it with the result in hand. The match ended with a comfortable Ikast-victory of 11-goals margin (32-21). This could be "she loves me, she loves me not" for both teams. The attention of the Ikast-players went quickly to the match between Viborg HK and GOG. The Kolding-women had their eyes and ears in Ringsted, where TMS Ringsted played against SK Aarhus. Kolding IF could hope that SK Aarhus wouldn't win with greater margin than 10 goals. This would secure Kolding IF yet a season in the HBL and relegate SK Aarhus. The result from Ringsted was the first to arrive to "Sportscenter Ikast" and with great celebration among the Kolding-players. SK Aarhus had won with 9 goals in Ringsted (24-33), but lost in the battle for survival with just 2 goals. The Ikast-players were still anxious to get the result from Viborg. If GOG couldn't win with more than 3 goals, Ikast would go through to the playoffs. Finally the results were announced - followed by an ecstatic home-crowd... Viborg HK and GOG ended 32-32 and Ikast-Bording EH is in the final race for the Danish Championship Title.
As happy as the Ikast- and Kolding-players were, as sad can you imagine the SK Aarhus- and GOG-players. GOG needed a victory of 4 goals in Viborg to qualify for the playoffs -ahead of Ikast-Bording. 4 minutes from the end, GOG were up with 1 goal (29-30), but the luck wasn't on their site this evening. In Ringsted; many Aarhus-players were crying after the final whistle. In the end... only 2 goals decided their relegation from the HBL. SK Aarhus knew before the clash that they had to win with a great margin. Kolding was 22 goals better in the HBL-table, so it would take something special to survive. Nevertheless; Kolding was at some point behind with 13 goals in Ikast and SK Aarhus ahead with 9 goals. At this point Kolding IF would have been relegated. SK Aarhus played an excellent match away against the other relegated side, TMS Ringsted. -However the players missed wide-open chances on more occasions and this was crucial in the end. Actually SK Aarhus still had 3 fast-breaks in the last 3 minutes, but the chances were all missed. Kolding IF won't be directly relegated; they will play in the play-outs against... either Team Esbjerg or Randers HK.
Before the 22nd round, Team Esbjerg was 1 point ahead of Randers HK in the HBL-table. Team Esbjerg played Aalborg DH at home in "Stadionhallen", but didn't stand a chance against the Sharks. In the end the visitors won by 11 goals (29-40). This result could be the chance for Randers HK playing away against FCK Haandbold. If they could conquer just 1 point in Copenhagen, they would be ready for yet a season in the HBL. At the break, FCK Haandbold was up with 6 goals (17-11). Especially Camilla Andersen (retiring) played outstanding in her last match on top level. She certainly wanted a victory in her last match, but after the break Randers came closer and equalized in the very last minute. The match was over (60:00)... only the last 3-meter throw was to be taken by Mette Vestergaard (FCK). She scored from a narrow angle to devastate the visitors and bringing delight to Esbjerg.
Right next to the delighted Esbjerg-players, which had lost with 11 goals, stood the Aalborg-players and waited for the final result in Slagelse. Aalborg DH could end on top of the HBL-table; if Slagelse DT would loose to Horsens HK. This seemed very unlikely, as Horsens had nothing to play for. However Horsens took the lead early in the match (3-4). At halftime, everything was in perfect order. The host with a margin of 8 goals at the break, a lead which also stood firm after the final whistle. The Slagelse-players could congratulate each other for a fine performance and an excellent position in front of the decisive playoffs. - see the FINAL standing of the HBL-primary round. Which club will be awarded as Danish Champion, this won't be decided before the playoffs. Pretty amazing... the 4.600 tickets for Aalborg DH vs. Viborg HK in the semifinals, has already been sold out.
